Adult Learn to Row Sessions
Fancy giving rowing a try? During the spring and summer months, Trentham Boat club offers adult beginner taster sessions (once a week). Unlike some taster rowing courses, we don’t stop at the absolute basics but offer the chance for you to get a more in-depth feel of the sport. Beginner session involve focusing on the basic skills and techniques of rowing and building confidence. Improver sessions then move on to rowing in our standard crew boats. All the sessions are supported by coaches and more experienced club members. To find out more information and when the next courses will be running, please contact our Membership Secretary – email@example.com.
The men’s beginner sessions start indoors on Tuesday evenings and then move onto the water on Saturday mornings after a few weeks. The ladies’ beginner sessions are normally held on Wednesday evenings or on Sunday afternoons and use training boats on the water for the first few weeks and then move into quad boats. You will always be guided and supported by qualified coaches and experienced squad members. We welcome adults of every age, sex and fitness. The sessions last about hour and a half to two hours with the number in the group limited to a maximum of 6-7 people. At the end of the course we will have taken you through the basics of how to row and hope you will have fallen in love with our sport and the special location where we are privileged to row.
COURSE AVAILABILITY UPDATE –
Our first 2017 adult beginner courses are going very well. We have a super group of enthusiastic learners in both men’s and women’s courses. Our next courses have not been arranged yet but the ladies’ courses should hopefully start sometime in July with the men looking like autumn. If you are already on the waiting list, we’ll be in touch when dates have been arranged and places will be allocated without favouritism on a first come first served basis. If you would like to be put on our waiting list, please contact the Membership Secretary.
- You must be able to swim at least 100 metres in light clothing
- That’s about it really!
No need for the figure hugging lycra as yet. Learning the basics of rowing is more mentally taxing than it is physically challenging, so wrap up warm (appropriate for the weather conditions) but avoid loose bulky jackets which will tend to get in the way. Ordinary trainers are fine.
The cost of our adult beginner sessions is currently £90, payable in advance. This includes 12 sessions, through the beginner and improver stages of the course.
And if you enjoy trying the sport we love…..
well, once you have done your beginner & improver sessions – we hope you will want to join the Club! Monthly membership is currently £25 a month for adults (paid by standing order). PLEASE NOTE, THAT AN INVITATION TO JOIN THE CLUB WILL BE DEPENDENT UPON OUR CAPACITY TO ACCEPT NEW MEMBERS.
Taster sessions for juniors
Anyone aged 18 or under is catered for in the junior section.
At the London 2012 Olympics and again in Rio 2016, rowing was one of the most successful sports, with an impressive number of medals. It was also the most successful rowing nation helping Britain come 3rd in the medal table. And we all love to watch the Annual Boat Races! So why not come and give rowing a try? Trentham Boat Club offers junior taster sessions for outdoor rowing on Trentham Gardens’ lake in the August school holidays and occasionally at other times during the year. Trentham Boat Club is a small club, established about 10 years ago. During that time the Club has built up the junior rowing section, winning national medals on a number of occasions since their first National Race in 2007, winning at international level 3 years running and also medals at junior European championships and Youth Olympics.
Places on our junior beginner sessions are limited and are booked on a first come, first served basis. For more information, please contact Darren Barton, Junior Coach.
