The forth annual reunion of founder (and present) members who rowed on Trentham lake was held on 26th/27th September in perfect weather conditions helping to make this the most memorable reunion to be held here.
Rowing on Trentham lake began in the early seventies when the club was called North Staffs Rowing Club. Many of those who attended were from that era and have kept in touch with one another ever since and have now become life members of this T.B.C. Previously, the reunions were held at different rowing venues when the club was forced to move to Rudyard in the late eighties. However, since rowing returned to these waters, it seemed the perfect place to make it their annual pilgrimage!
Many of the past members travel a fair distance to attend this event, such as The New forest and Somerset. But, top prize must go to Mike & Laura Palmer who made a colossal 12,000 mile round trip from USA just to be here for this weekend! Don’t they have rowing in the States?
There was a decent standard of rowing (well, at least nobody capsized) considering that for the majority the only chance they get to row is at the reunion weekend. This was largely achieved due to some excellent coxing on Sunday thanks to Naomi & Kyle. It was a family affair too, with a coxed four on Saturday comprising of The Wright Brothers (the first time rowing together in the same boat) with Mike & Laura Palmer and coxed by Andy Neve’s daughter Madeline. Incidentally this was only the second time Laura had rowed a boat; the first time was thirteen years ago at Oxford!

I look forward to next year when we can entertain our guests in the new boat house, and build on the success of this weekend!
